Freeze the balls off a brass monkey

It is cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey. It really is and has been for the past couple of days. Today we will explore the phrase. It is commonly agreed that the phrase comes from the book “Before the Mast in the Clippers” by C. A. Abbey5114xKtYcML._SL500_AA300_. The exact phrase used in the book is ‘freeze the tail off a brass monkey’. In our present temperature situation no self respecting monkey with or without brass balls would be outside.

There was urban legend that it was about a brass plate that held cannon balls but that has been debunked by naval experts. Can you imagine carrying cannon balls like that on a moving ship on the high seas? So, that story is bunk.

They cancelled the buses this morning as it is too cold for the kids to wait for the buses… this is normally when I begin a rant about waiting for buses and walking to school 9 miles etc…Jeezuz
