That’s peculiar…

The title of a book or the name of an event is designed to catch your interest, plant a seed, or downright hook you into opening the book or taking a look… Most mornings we walk about 3 miles. Our route takes us down the waterfront walk past Lashley Park here in Punta Gorda. I’m a fairly observant guy, I noticed an unusual tent going up in the park. It looked like a smaller version of a circus tent. To my dismay, it was not being erected by elephants.

A circus, in my mind, is measured by the size and number of it’s elephants or perhaps the lack thereof. This notice was posted on the bulletin board near the Lashley Park. I was intrigued by the name, it worked, Mr. Swindles Traveling Peculiarium…

There is no mention of what they are, what they do or what to expect. Just a big ass tent. I shun those voices that say you should take what you learn on the internet with a grain of salt… I can’t use any extra salt. Lately however, I tend to go to YouTube for my first exploration into my unknown. Mr. Swindles ‘Freak Show’.

Last night I went ashore and I was accosted by loud, pervasive and thumping music, the PECULIARIUM… The Freak Show. I was immediately taken back to George Carlin and “today on the California freeway there was a freak accident, six freaks in a camper hit 3 freaks in a van”.

My YouTube investigation reveals a guy who juggles tires. If only they were running chain saws and I would be in. Or if there was a chance that the Yak woman would make an appearance, those horns always make me giggle.

If we go I will report…
