Synergy/sin-orgy?

Christmas Holidays are a difficult time to diet. While on the Geezer tour with Rick I managed to lose over 10 pounds. It wasn’t that he tried to starve me, I just ate what he cooked and not much else. We didn’t snack, at least not with food. We may have had the odd cocktail to stave off scurvy and other nautical maladies.

ML does Christmas baking and had started this prior to my getting back home to the Island. Cookies and Christmas cake likely frozen in waiting. I’m not a fan of the traditional fruit Christmas cake. Too much stuff going on in those babies for my taste buds to deal with.

But she also made a couple of gum drop cakes. I like gum drops, applesauce and cake. I love gum drop cake made with applesauce. Hence the synergy reference. The gum drop cake is so much better than the individual ingredients.

I had my eating under control and the cravings were manageable until I got home and saw the gum drop cake. When I first spied the cake I cut off a big slab and gobbled it up. Then a half slice as a palate cleanser. Then I saw the non-symmetry of the half slice still attached to the cake. That had to go. I removed the offending half slice and stored it away, permanently.

Now I was feeling guilty. I use an app to help monitor my food and caloric intake ‘lose it’. I needed to get an idea how many calories in gum drop cake. I cut off a slice equal to the first (and second) slice and weighed it, 70 grams. Typical gum drop cake about 250 calories per 50 gm piece. My piece was a little atypical in size. Three hundred and twenty five calories per slice. Six hundred and fifty calories… so far. Now, what to do with the piece I cut to weigh???

Now the dilema. It’s either me or the cake… How does one get rid of a gumdrop cake? … JEEZUZ NO!!
